DOES THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME?

Sometime under the pretense of teaching a child a lesson we cause them more harm then good. Last night I had a dream about higher education. When I say higher education I mean that the classrooms were designed in a way that only the fastest and the stronger students were cable of being able to reach the next class on time. The classes were all built on high platforms that required a ladder or climbing skills to reach the bottom of the lesson and rushing to the next class before the bell rang you tardy. That particular day I had trouble getting to the bottom because my hands were full and the ladder had been pushed away. When I finally descended to the ground and started towards my next class I was stopped for being late. I was taken to the dean’s office and handed a large stack of books. The Dean said that a written book report from each selection was to be my punishment. I knew my father would be furious. I tried to explain about my fear of heights and about the missing ladder. Then I got angry! Had I been allowed to continue on to my class I would have missed only a small portion of the class. The Dean’s "justifiable punishment" resulted in a lost of the whole period. I thought to myself; what if I needed the missed information for an upcoming exam. I would be even further behind. In some cases the punishment just doesn’t fit the crime.
